Shadow Boxes

Shadow Boxes are really cool to create. All you have to do is create three different scenes out of three different pieces of paper. This is a scene from "Divergent", the first book of a series. Shadow boxes include the foreground, middle ground, and background. The foreground is the first piece of paper and mine is the picture of a tree. The middle ground is the second piece of paper and mine is the boy and girl couple standing. The background is the third piece of paper and mine is of the city. Below are two different ways to take pictures of the shadow-box. The top one is of the shadow box behind a light. The bottom one is the shadow box in pure daylight.

Peer Critique 11-9-15

This is a peer critique made by another student in the class of 3-D Art.
Description: This artwork displays a message of racial equality. It has a creation of a paper African-American woman. Her mouth is covered with a "Google" search bar. It is almost as if she is muted by these negative searches. The searches say African Americans... have no culture, have a crime gene, have poverty, have no life, and have a lot of problems. The look on the woman's face is very depressing. She is wearing a blue shirt, has dark hair, and has dark eyes. The search has the intricate images of a microphone and magnifying glass. This woman takes up 3/4 of the poster, the other 1/4 is of words. The words say, "You're wrong, Google". It is popped out and is an outline. The background is a vibrant red while the letters are a playful yellow. These colors allow the words to be emphasized. The color of the shirt and woman also playoff of the bright colors.

Analyze: This is a poster fighting for racial equality. It has a vertical orientation. The artist used a lot of space techniques by cutting out the words and keeping the outline of letters. The woman fills up a lot of positive space but around there is a lot of empty negative space. By creating this emptiness it brings a lot of emphasis to the woman. Another element used was scale and proportion. If the woman wasn't as big, then it wouldn't send the same message. In addition the artist used emphasis. By making the woman fill most of the poster, it puts emphasis on how depressed and muted she looks. The color usage of the words help focus on the fact that none of the searches are true.

Interpret: I can see that this ouster is about racial equality. I see this because the main emphasis is an African-American woman, who's mouth is covered by so called false "Google" searches. It also says that these false statements are wrong. With all of these factors I can presume that this artist wants racial equality. It means that "Google" in saying that these negative searches are the top searches are mean and negative is wrong.

Judge: In my opinion this artwork is very successful, in the fact that it has so much emphasis on the woman, it gets the topic in your head clearly. This artwork shows me the reality of racial inequality in the world. In my opinion nobody should even question what the cause of this poster is. I love this piece of artwork because it makes me care, it speaks to me, and I love how clean the lines and edges are. My only suggestion to make it better would be to be very careful with glue. Overall, it looks very professional.

Pop-Up

Pop-Up art is an interactive piece of art that is fun and super easy to make. It has really cool features including you can tell a story(up above) or just do it for fun.
This is a little simpler pop out for the beginners. This is what we are currently learning in high school in a class called intro to 3-D Art. We will work with paper, wood, ceramics, and much more. It is a really fun clas and is just the beginning of your art career.

Wooden Assemblage

                                                               My Artist Statement
The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Being a student of art has taught me a lot and my most recent project has taught me the most. A wooden box with shelves filled artifacts of personal importance was the greatest project I have ever made.
The materials used were wood, paint, and my artifact of personal importance. The color scheme was very bright and bubbly. The colors played off of my personality. Pink, orange, and coral, were my colors that I used. In order to fill the shelves I made wooden shapes. These shapes were a cube, pyramid, and rectangular prism. The elements and principals of space, color, and, shape. My biggest challenge was to create less negative space and where exactly the placement of the shelves would look the best.
The objects I chose were a basketball, a Pacers keychain, a cupcake figure, hand sanitizer, and nail polish. I chose a basketball because I have played basketball since kindergarten. Basketball shows my athleticism and determination. I chose a Pacers keychain because I go to a lot of Pacers game with my family and I have a lot of fun. I decided to use a cupcake because I love to bake and always bake with my best friend. My friends are the world to me and the cupcake really helped me recreate my friendships in my project. The hand sanitizer was used because the scent was Caribbean Life. I love to travel and the beach life. It is something I forward to each summer and the hand sanitizer allowed me to voice that in my art. Nail Polish is also seen in the form. I chose this because it represents my confidence and beauty. I am a very confident woman and I love to paint my nails. These artifacts are very important to me.
Inspiration is a big key in my creating of my artwork. My biggest inspiration is my elementary school art teacher. She always helped me if I needed help and her artwork was very engaging and beautiful. She made me strive to create the best work I could ever make. My inspiration for this single piece of artwork was one of my good friends, Lisa. She always like to paint and work with bright colors and this inspired my color scheme and shape colors. Generally, I love to look and interact with 3-D art. I like the physics and the thought that goes into creating 3-D forms. Overall, 3-D art is definitely the best type of art in my opinion.
In conclusion, my inspiration was my art teacher and my good friend, Lisa. My artifact of personal importance were chosen through what my personality was like and what my interest were. I used a lot of shape, space, and color in order to create the best effect of this piece. Overall, this piece was the best project I have created and it was the most entertaining project to create as well.
